DECOUPAGE: A TIMELESS ART FORM - CANCELED
For Ages 18 & Older. The history of decoupage can trace its history back to the 12th century. Join us as we review its rebirth of popularity during the Victorian Period. Learn design techniques of gluing paper cutouts onto an object and sealing them to portray a painting or inlay work.

{compass} ORIENTEERING WITH DVOA Orienteering is a sport that uses a map, looking for locations in the woods. Beginners should allow 20 minutes for instructions and 45-60 minutes to walk the course. A White (instructional level) Course and a Score course (find as many locations within an hour) will be available. Scouts can earn badges or patches such as Finding your Way (Jr GS) or Map and Compass hatpin/belt loop (Cubs). This event is rain or shine. www.dvoa.org

EXPLORE WOLF'S HOLLOW FARM For Ages 12 & Older. Welcome Spring while exploring the trails! Learn what the park has to offer and about the flora and wildlife that is present. These monthly hikes will be 60 - 90 minutes depending on trail selection, participants’ rate of speed, and possible wildlife sightings. FAMILIES IN THE PARK: SPRING PEEPERS
The flowers start blooming. The days are noticeably longer. The birds are returning from the south. Who else is enjoying spring at Springton Manor Farm? Little spring peepers! These small amphibians are often heard but not seen. Come take a closer look and see if you can find them in their marshy habitat. Wear your boots!

BIRDING AT BLACK ROCK Join us for a morning bird walk to explore the meadows and wetlands of this unique site along the Atlantic Flyway. Learn about fine-feathered friends that inhabit our natural areas, and those who just stop-by for an early spring visit. Learn techniques used to identify birds such as birding by color, shape, song and habitat. Enjoy bird watching and outdoor exploration led by an experienced birder. Open to beginners.

GPS EGG HUNT For Ages 5 & Older. Pair up with a friend and try a new twist on an old favorite! Teams of two will go on an egg hunt in the park with their GPS (global positioning system). You’ll need a hand-held GPS, a buddy and hiking footwear. Car GPS is not recommended. Kids under 12 must team up with an adult. Dress appropriately. Please pre-register; space is limited.

FIRST PEEP OF SPRING - CANCELED {spring peeper} Experience a "Sac Full O’ Sound" in the early spring. Listen to frogs and toads produce distinctive sounds and a variety of calls. Learn to identify different frogs just by their calls, and discover how and why they call so much this time of year. Please wear your tromping boots or shoes as we follow the calls to their wet hiding places. Lots of fun for all!

It’s prime time to catch the male dive display to attract a female to his territory. Observe other erratic and buoyant flights, including hover-hunting. FROGWATCH USA VOLUNTEER TRAINING
Globally, populations of frog and other amphibian species are declining. Frogwatch USA is a partnership between the National Wildlife Federation and the U.S. Geological Survey. It collects data from volunteer citizen scientists, who monitor the vocalizations of local frog populations. Receive the background information necessary to become a Frogwatch USA volunteer and enjoy learning about our local wetland species.

SPRING PLANT SWAP Bring a friend and trowel to this FREE volunteer community event and join a growing number of interested gardeners in exchanging plants, seeds, stories and information. CUB SCOUT WILDLIFE CONSERVATION
This program is geared toward Scouts, but open to anyone. Cub Scouts can complete the options for the Wildlife Conservation Belt Loop by learning about: natural resources and why it is important to protect and conserve them; producers, consumers and decomposers in the food chain; endangered species and how the species came to be endangered. Participants may also build a Bluebird nest box.

SERPENTINE BUILDINGS IN CHESTER COUNTY* Join us at the Nottingham Serpentine Presbyterian Church, which was built from serpentine rock quarried at Nottingham County Park. Jane Dorchester will share her years of experience researching and documenting these prominent county structures. There will be an optional hike through the Serpentine Barrens National Natural Landmark dedicated at the park in 2008. Light refreshments provided.

SPRINGTIME SUNSET KAYAK TOUR {kayak tour} For Ages 12 & Older. Come relax in your canoe or kayak during an interpretive tour of Chambers Lake at Hibernia County Park. Eastern Mountain Sports will provide kayaks to a limited amount of participants who do not have their own. Bring your binoculars, drinking water and curiosity.

FAMILY FISHING PROGRAM Looking for a great way to connect with your family? Join us on the statewide "Fish for Free Day" to learn how much fun fishing can be when you do it together. MOUNTAIN LAUREL: STATE FLOWER BLOOM ALONG THE TRAIL For Ages 10 & Older. Enjoy a late spring walk along trails skirting Wolf’s Hollow’s wooded hillsides. Mountain Laurel is commonly found growing on rocky hill habitat that provides cool and moist, yet well-drained soil. Depending on seasonal weather, bloom takes place in late May with the pink and white blossoms often showing well into June. With a little luck from nature, witness flowering mountain laurel in Chester County. Learn about our state flower during this educational trek and gorgeous scenery.

FAMILY FUN CAMP OUT AT NOTTINGHAM - FULL! Enjoy a night under the stars camping in Nottingham County Park. Participants must bring their own camping supplies (tent camping only) and arrive at the designated time to ensure enough daylight for set up. Then embark on a night hike followed by a campfire with s’mores and other refreshments. Tuck in and fall asleep to the sounds of Nottingham’s nightlife. A light breakfast will be provided. Program Registration Information:
Registration is required for all programs. You are not officially registered for a program until the registration form and payment (if applicable) are received. All persons residing at the same address may be listed on one form for the same program. This allows us to plan for and properly staff our programs.
Telephone registration will not be accepted. A completed registration form is required to secure participation. Forms may be submitted three ways:
Send In: Mail your form and check to the park hosting the program.
Walk In: Bring your form and payment to any park office. Office hours are Mon-Fri, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Fax In: For programs not requiring a fee, forms may be faxed to the park office.
Forms should be received 3 days prior to program date. Please pre-register. Walk-in registration will only be accepted at the program if space allows.
Wait List: When a program reaches capacity, registrants will be placed on a wait list. Wait list registrants will be notified if space becomes available.
Payment: We accept cash and checks. Please do not send cash through the mail. Make check payable to: Treasurer of Chester County and note program title on memo line. There is a $50 charge for any check returned from the bank. We cannot accept a credit card to hold spaces.
Refunds will be issued if the Department cancels the program. |
